During the mid-80's, Kraft launched a new line of portable snackfood. Dubbed Handi-Snacks, the revolutionary packaging and design would forever change the way Americans viewed the conventional combination of cheese and crackers. No longer constricted to the portioning of cheese as determined by a boardroom of corporate bigwigs with fingers far from the pulse of the modern consumer climate, each individual serving of Handi-Snacks came packaged with its own red plastic spreading stick, putting power back into the hands of the people and allowing them to apply as little - or as much - artifically processed cheese-flavored spreading paste to each cracker as they saw fit. Man had reached its apex.

Twenty years later and the red plastic spreading stick has become every bit a part of Americana as McDonalds brand Baked Apple Pie™ and Chips Ahoy! brand Chocolate Chip Cookies™ (now available in both Reduced Fat Chips Ahoy!™ and Mini Chips Ahoy!™ wherever fine Nabisco© products are sold). Of course, most fairy tale endings start with humble beginnings and the story behind the sweeping revolution brought about by the red plastic spreading stick is no different.
