the "played out" thread.

50% of the bands discussed in this thread have recorded at least one song about having a magical ticket that lets them go anywhere and do anything. Guaranteed.

the "played out" thread.

This is a thread to talk about songs that, unfortunately, received lots of attention, be it local or national and therefore became played out.

However, after not listening to them for a long time, you are able to fully appreciate them again.

I think Outkast's "Mrs. Jackson" is one of the best hip-hop songs ever. It got WAY over done, but today, i'm listening to it again for the first time in years, and man, it's just really great.

That moment where I realized that the hook in Ms. Jackson was from 'here comes the bride', that was a really cool moment.

I heard "The Reason" by Hoobastank (that's right) the other day and was singing along. I still don't get tired of the Postal Service's stuff. And two songs that bring back soooooooo many memories from high school are Blink 182's "Dammit" and Bone and Biggie's "Notorious Thugs". I heard Notorious Thugs the other day in this store I was in and this other guy was singing along. It's such an awesome song! One of my favorite rap beats ever.

Enter Sandman.

But if you wait a while and listen to it you can hear that it's one of the catchiest, most well produced heavy metal songs ever.

Hey Ya, also by Outkast.

It got more radio play than any other song I can remember, and that, along with constantly hearing it on TV and in movie trailers made it pretty grating. It's kind of hard to believe it was released 4 years ago as it still gets stuck in my head occasionally.

The best part of Hey Ya is that he does not say "All right" too many times.

Hey Ya drove me absolutely crazy. It was the music for an ad for the Oscars which my theatre played as the first trailer on every single movie for a month or so. Every time I worked projection, I heard 30 seconds of that song about 30-40 times a shift.

I love the Bon Jovi song This Ain't A Love Song. They recorded a spanish version of the song called Como Yo Nadie Te Ha Amado, which roughly translates to Nobody Has Loved You Like I Have. Obviously the lyrics aren't a direct translation of the original but the vocal harmonies are the same. Anyway, a spanish singer called Yuridia covered that spanish version of the song and every radio station here is playing it ad nauseam.

ahahahahaha what's your reasoning here? it did well enough as a single and received respectable radio time, sure, but overplayed? pretty fly for a white guy was overplayed. semi-charmed life was overplayed. the way by fastball was overplayed. the widow was successful.

*edit* it peaked at #95 on the singles charts.

When it first came out, I was still in college and there were a couple of people at my school who couldn't shut up about The Mars Volta or that song. I really liked the band and the song but never listened to the radio. I figured it was getting some play time. M'bad. I heard it the other day for the first time in a while and I was like "yessssss".

Closing Time by Semisonic. It was a great song on a great album that became the go to high school graduation song that year.

Also, the original cut of the music video was fantastic.
We've even covered the covers of our covers... it's like a quilt, really.

I agree with the latter two songs, but "The Reason" by Hoobastank made me go into Hulk Hogan "fish out of water" mode the first time I heard it. Terrible song. Terrible band. UGGHHH.

I used to think they were a terrible band too, but then my friend gave me a free ticket to see them live and I was just amazed at how good they were live. Like they may be in my top 10 bands I've seen live and I don't even own any of their CDs and like maybe have 5 of their songs. I still don't think they're good, but their live show is at least. Or maybe it was just the Roxy. I once saw this commercial on HBO last year, I think, advertising like all of the HBO Original Series shows with "The Reason" and it was pretty entertaining seeing Tony Soprano killing people during that song, it was pretty deep, man.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree, but it's true that seeing someone live can make you more of a BELIEVER.
