Jon: The "dad" in the first panel was actually my old colleague from form school.  Justin and I were holding our monthly Friends' Breakfast last winter.  He attended and was very intrigued by this "Hangin' Out Gang" project we were driveling on about and asked of he could be part of it.  Of course, The Hangin' Out Gang wasn't the industry presence it is now, so at the time we were flattered.  Luckily for us, he also happened to have spent a few months in a trade school studying carpentry, sort of a newfound hobby of his.  He actually helped our set workers put together the dorm loft you see in the final panel.
