Without a world championship they were remembered as Bo Jackson, and without Bo Jackson they were remembered as George Brett, and without George Brett they were remembered as one of those teams full of suckers who actually played hard during the strike year.  By the time Mike Sweeney made his way to the major leagues in 1995, the buzz was gone.  An all-time low was reached in 2001, when the Royals baseball players actually held more interest in their fans than vice versa.
