Plot summary: Powerpuff Girl villains are normally pretty straight-forward - evil monkey scientist, hillbilly, gang of things - but "Him," introduced in the first season, is without a doubt the most bizarre. In fact, if Jabberjaw wasn't an upright walking, blue, great-white shark who talks like Curly from the Three Stooges using Rodney Dangerfield catchphrases while playing drums and solving mysteries underwater in the future, Him would be considered the most bizarre cartoon character of all time.
Consider the facts: Him, so evil that his name cannot be pronounced (which narrows his identity down to Voldemort, those puppet costumes from The Village, or Chris Benoit), is a super-powerful cross-dressing devil with lobster claws who alternates between screaming and echoing softly like Tiny Tim in the bathroom. Combining aspects of two popular characters isn't a new way to make your own, but I'm pretty sure Craig McCracken thought combining the Chief of the Blue Meanies with the big floating German devil from the silent version of Faust was the best possible antagonist for little girls with arms and legs like Rhonda and Randy Reindeer.
What do I know, I thought it was perfectly normal for the cat to be chasing the mouse with a hammer. (more)
User Comments: During the Dark Ages, artists portrayed the Devil and demons as half-human animals and machines to evoke fear and confusion to portray the evil of man. In 2007, animators portray the Devil as a stammering homosexual who can't keep his shit together. During the Dark Ages, theologians were faced with insurmountable darkness and worried that the beasts coming for them in the night were something they could not fathom. In 2007, the biggest thing worrying Christians is that unassociated gay people are finding love. Wouldn't it make sense for the Modern Satan to be Carson Kressley, with like a whip? I've seen some bittersweet James Taylor-quality fire and rain, but when the cast of Queer Eye start wearing dog collars and eating hearts I'm dropping half my body-weight in shit-scared loads and running my ass away.
Voice actor Tom Kane also voices Professor Utonium on The Powerpuff Girls, made John F. Kennedy say the word "pee" in Forrest Gump, and appears as thirty or more assholes with apostrophes in their names in every Star Wars game ever made.
Fun Fact: "Him" is named after songs you sing at church.
