Plot summary: According to modern evolutionary theory, all populations of organisms are in transition. Therefore, a "transitional form" is a human construct of a form that vividly represents a particular evolutionary stage, as recognized in hindsight. This is the "Missing Link," the point in the chain where one thing started to become another. How did people evolve from apes into intelligent homosapiens capable of autonomous thought and dreams? Transitional forms. See if you can find the transitional form, or "missing link," in the plot for Dino Boy in the Lost Valley.

Todd and his parents are in an airplane. It's going down. They are certainly going to die. So Todd uses the only parachute to jump from the plane and float to the Earth, safe from harm. When he lands, he finds himself in South America, where CAVEMEN AND DINOSAURS LIVE.

That missing link is either "time travel" or Hanna Barbera having not a goddamn clue about South American culture. Okay, white people live in America. Europeans live in Europe, Santa Claus lives in the North Pole. Chinese people live in China and Japan, black people live in Africa. Who lives in South America? HOW ABOUT SOME DINOSAURS. Thank God he didn't crash land in Turkey or he'd have been beheaded and served with a cylindar of cranberry sauce. (more)

The Brontosaurus pictured is named "Bronto," becuase I guess Barbera got half way through the word and forgot how to spell it. The caveman is named "Ugh" because that's the first thing Todd heard him say, and what else are you supposed to say when a 10 year old in booty shorts shows up to solve some caveman adventures. He's lucky the caveman wasn't named "Now What The Fuck Is This Shit." Bronto, Ugh, and Dino Boy formed a crack crimefighting team, but there isn't a lot of crime to fight in the Stone Age/South America, so they ended up fighting things like the SNOW MONSTER or the VAMPIRE MEN.

Forget my previous musing on how they came up with Dino Boy, I've got it figured out. They had three seconds to come up with a show and Hanna started yelling "HE'S A BOY, AND HE DOES THINGS. HE CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WANT GO GO GO." Everybody had ideas, so they all got chosen, like when Milhouse and Bart are trying to figure out why their parents aren't around. The two instances even share Reverse Vampires. Dino Boy got lost in the Argentinian Troglodytes because Ralph isn't allowed to cut on his stove.
