The Carlos Delgado Ike Davis Butter Bet

Four years ago, I made a bet. Foolishly made a bet, I should say, although in retrospect it seemed unlosable. The premise was simple. I said that if the aging Carlos Delgado finished the 2008 season with over 25 home runs, I would eat a stick of butter. Even now it astonishes me to see that, despite being on pace to get barely over 20 for the first month of the season, he finished with 38 homers. My payment was long in coming, but eventually did. I hated rooting against a member of the Mets, so I made a similar bet at the beginning of this season. Foolishly made a bet, I should say again, since the conditiions state that if Ike Davis does NOT reach 30 home runs this season, I will be eating TWO sticks of butter.

Of course I'm totally boned. But maybe there's some Delgado-like magic in ole Ike Davis yet. He hit a homer last night! So uh, that's something, I guess! By all means enjoy watching a grown man die of a coronary on YouTube.
